IV infused NAD+ can cause chest discomfort, abdominal cramping, and flushing if run too quickly, and a compounded injectable product was subject to a Class I FDA recall for bacterial endotoxin contamination. A theoretical concern exists that raising NAD+ broadly could support the metabolism of existing cancers (NAD+ is required by all rapidly dividing cells). Is it safe to take NAD daily?

NR (nicotinamide riboside) at doses up to 1000 mg/day for 8 weeks showed no significant adverse events versus placebo in a controlled trial of healthy overweight adults [17]. These are the best-controlled safety data available for oral NAD+ precursors, but they cover weeks to a few months — not years. Does NAD cause weight gain?
